PhD Journey Finally Begun

The moment has finally arrived, and I am officially a Ph.D. student (registered on 13th September 2023). As I embark on this new chapter of my academic journey as a Ph.D. student, I find myself brimming with excitement and anticipation. The decision to pursue a Ph.D. wasn't one that I took lightly. It required careful consideration, countless conversations, and a deep introspection of my own academic and career aspirations. I knew that this would be a journey filled with challenges, physically and financially, but the opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge was a driving force that I couldn't ignore.

Early Research Discussions

My journey into the world of Ph.D. research began long before I officially registered. Months prior, I was already engaged in fruitful discussions with my supervisor, meeting once or twice a month to refine my research objectives. I am grateful enough to have ample time as I took a break from study and was not bonded with any working shift.

The Research Quest

The heart of a Ph.D. program lies in the research. My Ph.D. research revolves around the captivating of VTOL or eVTOL and its applications in the realm of Urban Air Mobility. This field represents a departure from my previous academic pursuits in metal forming and finite element analysis (FEA).

Diving into a different field undoubtedly presents its own set of challenges. Mastering new concepts, theories, and methodologies demands time and dedication. However, I firmly believe that learning across disciplines can be a catalyst for personal and intellectual growth. It may take longer to become proficient in multiple areas, but the journey itself is enriching.

Productivity and Time Management

In my pursuit of academic excellence, I've been inspired by Ali Abdaal, whose insights on productivity and study tips have been a guiding light since 2020. His wisdom is both practical and relatable, offering valuable lessons on how to make the most of each day while still savoring life to the fullest. As I navigate the rigors of Ph.D. life, intentional time management will be my compass.

Looking Ahead

As I officially begin my life as a Ph.D. student, I am acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead. The late-night research sessions, the moments of self-doubt, and the ever-present specter of writer's block will undoubtedly make appearances. But I am also keenly aware of the incredible opportunities for growth, the joy of discovery, and the satisfaction of contributing something meaningful to my field.
